I am locking up some content with patreon and currently have multiple tiers in my campaign. $1,$3,$5, etc.
The locked content is set to unlock for the $5 tier and above, but when a user clicks on the “Unlock with Patreon” button, it takes them to checkout with the $1 tier defaulted. This causes a lot of users to sign up with the lower tier and then they have to change their tier afterwards.
I’m having the same issue in Jan 2024, just installed the plugin so it’s up-to-date.
When a user clicks to “Unlock” is doesn’t go to a login page but rather a checkout page at the lowest tier.
This is an issue because it can cause exiting Patrons to think they need to pay for this post even though they’re already subscribed AND any new Patreons will be funneled to the lowest tier even if that’s not what they want.
1 - Which tier is this content locked from? ($ amount)
2 - Is there a tier at your Patreon that coincides with that exact amount?
3 - Is your campaign in a currency other than dollar?
If you set it for all tiers, that would include the lowest tier and therefore the lowest tier would be used. Try setting it to a higher tier and check if it goes to the correct tier.
You’re not understanding the issue I and other users have with how your plugin works. You’ve made a plugin that by default brings visitors to a checkout page at the lowest tier of the locked post instead of giving them the option to see all tiers and select one of their choosing.
This is a major issue that needs to be acknowledged. I know I won’t be using this plugin until the problem is corrected in a future update and based on the sheer number of threads in this forum complaining about it, I assume others won’t as well.

The implemented behavior is to take the user to the exact tier that matches the amount that the content is locked from, and its working that way across the ~4000 sites that use the plugin. Also its how it works in fresh test installations. If this is happening at your site, then there may be some issue with how the redirects are handled at your site or something that doesnt work with your tiers. Its hard to make any comment without more information.
As I said, first you should confirm if there is any other tier that matches or close to the tier you gated your content with (or the amount) than your lowest tier.
I understand it takes you to the lowest tier for that particular post - but the problem is it doesn’t give the Patron a choice to select other tiers. So if a person clicks a post locked for say a $2 tier then signs up. Then they see another post on your site that’s for a different tier and click it only to find it’s locked for the $5 tier they’ll again get sent to a checkout page which would be very frustrating as a Patron.
Whereas if they were originally sent from the locked post to a page showing all the tier options in the first place they could choose the right one for them from the start. It’s just a really clunky and not well though out design. Just look at the number of other threads on this forum from creators who are complaining about it. Might be time to listen to your users.
The flow is designed to be easy to understand and take the minimum effort on the user’s part to unlock your content, and for that reason there is no tier selection and instead the tier that the content is locked for is being used.

Those threads relate to some bugs that affect some specific use cases and they are not related to the way the flow works. So it seems like your site is not affected by any bug, but this is a particular request that you have.
Just saying there are a lot of users who are not happy with the way the plugin is designed as-is, maybe the team needs to listen to the people using it and make some changes…
I’m not sure how others feel, but I do not plan on using the plugin unless this gets addressed in a future update.
The threads you linked are about the bugs in cases in which the tier was taking the users to the wrong tier instead of the exact tier that was used to lock the post - they are not about providing an option to the user for being able to see all tiers or select a different tier in the flow. We may have received one or two requests in the past 7 years in the same direction, but those have never been numerous requests.
That said, I understand the feature you want. However its not something that is feasible to add as it requires considerable changes not only on the plugin side, but also at the flows at patreon.com. You could achieve a similar result by having your site send your users to your members page where they can see the tiers by doing some modifications or using the Button & Widgets features. (either from the free plugin, or in the pro version).
